Afghan Bazaar
Friday 20th June 2014 At South Granville Performing Arts Creative High School Afghan Bazaar provided a beautiful opportunity to showcase the CMRC / School partnership projects, Find Your Voice! public speaking training and social enterprise programs at the one event. 300 people attended the Afghan Bazaar. Following a 5 week Kite Making Program with the school students, the school staff and students helped bring all the elements of the night together- with 2 youth MCs, Afghan traditional music and local comedians from the Hazara community. Students sang, and then helped run the popular Afghan Quiz, artisans and small business owners held stalls, henna designs and face painting were enjoyed by the families. Our Local Member for Parramatta, Federal MP Julie Owens was able to stop by.

Conversations With A Muslim High Schooler - Leyla Kaya
Last month the CMRC Young Storytellers began a project to counter the abundant misrepresentation of Muslim youth in the media by providing them with a platform, wherein they are able share their experiences and thoughts on topical issues that are important to them. This month we were able to sit down with Leyla Kaya, a proactive school leader from Sydney’s West, who hopes to share her experiences growing up in Australia, whilst offering a little advice for other young Muslim girls. Leyla, a thoughtful and optimistic Muslim student talks to us about school, cultural misunderstandings, being Australian, her faith and her decision to put on the Islamic hijab.
